- Quilt by Norma Blacksmith
Norma Blacksmith is of Lakota and Cheyenne descent, an Oglala Lakota elder from the Pine Ridge, South Dakota. She is a graduate of Houghton College (NY) and has travelled extensively sharing her faith and her wisdom, and her heart.
Through Mrs. Blacksmith’s knowledge of the culture, history, language, and social issues of the Oglala, Lakota she is a Lakota studies Instructor at the Oglala Lakota College and also knows Cheyenne history through the oral history from the Elders.
As a member of ASKnetwork, a Christian fellowship of prayer intercessors Mrs. Blacksmith speaks regularly on the KILI radio show “Sacred Voice in the Wind”.
Norma Blacksmith learned how to make star quilts at the age of 12 and she is one of the few who created the design for the Oglala Lakota Tribal flag.
Each quilt is unique in design and there are not two alike.
